Scenic Rim Regional Council
Sarjaro was engaged by Scenic Rim Regional Council to remove silt from two ponds at the Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens. Sarjaro undertook the comprehensive pond remediation project during the winter season and the works involved the following:
• Site Establishment - Temporary fencing, signage, equipment delivery, and erosion control.
• Pond Remediation - Included bypassing the 70 litres per second water flow of the stream using four large pumps (24 hours an day for the duration of the project), excavation dewatering, constant sediment drying, and phased excavation.
• The Excavation works included excavating wet sediment and stockpiling approximately 1,000m³ of silt near the rock bridge.
• Soil remediation included the Blending lime / sawdust and fly ash into the silt for stabilization using an excavator with a sieve bucket.
• Loading, Transporting and disposal works followed the treatment works and care was required to move material from the top of the mountain down to the bottom for disposal at JGI Quarry and Recycling in Oxenford.
• Environmental & Safety Measures: Ongoing water quality testing, fauna assessment, and relocation took place with spotter catcher during the works.
• Structural Works: were also ongoing and this included Installing culvert plugs, inspecting pond conditions, and implementing temporary access solutions throughout the project.
This project ensured environmental compliance and site stability for future use, while enhancing the environmental health and aesthetics of the Botanic Gardens for the local community to enjoy for future generations.

Blanches Bus Depot UST Removal & AST Installation
Underground Petroleum Storage System (UPSS) Remediation, followed by the additional relocation, installation, and commissioning of an Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) at Blanch’s Bus Depot in Ballina.
Sarjaro was engaged by CDC and Tim Fitzroy & Associates to remove one (1) underground storage tanks (USTs) from an operating bus depot in Ballina, NSW. Following the UST removal works, Sarjaro were contracted to relocate, install, and commission an Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) in the same location.
This project includes:
• Removal of one (1) 17,000 litre UST, associated product lines, fuel bowser, fill points, and large concrete tank anchors.
• Compliance with NSW UPSS Regulation and SafeWork NSW for UST decommissioning.
• Eliminating petroleum hydrocarbon sources and backfilling tank voids with clean, locally sourced VENM material.
• Advancing site remediation to align with potential residential zoning under NEPC guidelines.
• Concrete Reinstating - installing an AST raft slab per engineering specifications.
• Reconnecting switchboard and bus wash electrical systems, identifying underground cabling, trenching, and commissioning.
• Reinstating recycled water connections and installing new copper piping.
• Installing a concrete apron, relocating industrial outlets, and demolishing/removing of workers site sheds and recycled water taps.
• Inspecting and ensuring compliance of the AST before transport.
• Transporting the AST from Byron Bay to Ballina, including cranage and site preparation.
• Modifying the fuel container for optimal functionality, including ladder relocation, dispenser upgrades, filtration system installation, and integration of a Smartfill Fuel Management System.
• Installing environmental controls, underground service location, and necessary fire safety measures.
• Ensuring compliance with AS 1940-2017, NSW EPA, SafeWork NSW, and other relevant regulations.
• Commissioning the AST with calibration, staff training, and regulatory certification.
This project contributed to environmental restoration and regulatory compliance for future land use, while ensuring the upgrade enhances fuel storage safety, efficiency, and compliance at the Ballina depot for years to come.
