Townsville Connection Road - PFAS Passive Barrier Treatment
Project Category
Water Treatment
Timeframe
April 2024 - Ongoing
Location
Townville, QLD
Client
Albem & SGQ Joint Venture (ASJV)
Department of Transport & Main Roads (TMR)
Sarjaro were engaged by Albem / SGQ Joint Venture (ASJV) to provide PFAS contaminated water management solutions for the surface water runoff encountered on the Townsville Connections Road Project for Transport and Main Roads (TMR) . The contract involved the design, construction, mobilisation, setup, and sale of a bespoke PFAS Passive Barrier Treatment System and the additional inclusion of a small water treatment plant on weekly hire.
The passive barrier system is designed to treat PFAS-contaminated surface water. The system consists of a permeable, engineered structure that intercepts and removes PFAS as the water flows through it naturally. Unlike active treatment systems (water treatment Plants) that require pumps, energy inputs, or chemical dosing, a passive barrier system relies on natural hydraulic gradients and filtration media to treat contamination efficiently over the long term with minimal maintenance.
